Art At Your Fingertips for Lower, Middle and Upper School Students (Joyous Abandon)

March 18, 2015

Art At Your Fingertips (AAYF) is the Palos Verdes Art Center’s visual arts outreach program which brings standards-based education to local schools and aims to help participants feel comfortable using art as a means of expression.  Five AAYF projects will be interspersed through out the 2014 – 2015 school year. Each project will be completed in a single session.

joyous abandon image_NewOur last 2014-2015 project applies the painting techniques used by Abstract Expressionist artists of the mid-twentieth century. Using the pouring techniques made famous by American Color Field painter Helen Frankenthaler, students will work individually, as well as in groups, to create a truly original piece of abstract art. By allowing diluted paint to flow freely before soaking into the canvas, students will learn to paint with joyous abandon.

Parents: this is a messy project, so please encourage your student to wear “slop” clothes (i.e., clothing that can get dirty) to school on this day.
