CLU offers students in grades K through 12 a unique array of summer school programs. Each of our therapeutic summertime programs are thoughtfully planned and designed to provide a bridge to the coming school year as well as enhance academic success and social relationship learning. Summer programs are open current students as well as those not enrolled at our school during the regular school year.
Our low staff/student ratio is ideally suited to providing the close supervision that is needed for those having attention issues, learning disabilities, Asperger’s Syndrome, bipolar disorder or other learning and adjustment concerns.
Lower/Middle School Summer Program (Grades K – 8)
This themed summer program emphasizes the practice of core academic skills like reading, writing and math, based on State of California standards. Assignments are scaled to the learning needs of each student.
Organization, time management and goal setting are essential components of the program. With the help of staff, each student plots an individual CLU Directions© plan as they prepare for the day and the week. Students work in one-hour segments on reading and writing, followed by a lunch break. The day concludes with math practice.
Upper School Summer Program (Grades 9 -12)
Current CLU Upper School students have the opportunity to complete their school year credits or “get ahead” on the upcoming school year’s academic schedule. Assignments center on exploring content related to that summer session’s theme.
For high school students who are not enrolled at our school during the regular school year, we offer an online program specifically designed for students with specific learning disabilities as well as those who are best served in a small highly personalized and structured setting. Each day, students complete coursework and practice independent study habits with a teacher.* Given the pace and rigor of the online content, students are limited to a maximum of two (2) courses during the summer. Tuition requires online course as well as CLU summer school fees. If more intensive assistance or remediation is needed, tutoring is available for an additional fee.
* Two credentialed teachers monitor student progress: an online, credentialed instructor and an in-class CLU credentialed teacher who guides the student using the CLU Directions© (for time management, goal setting, etc.) for up to 1 hour a day.
