Students in The Center’s Lower School are presented with a full-range of curriculum, as required by the state of California. However, its presentation is necessarily adapted to accommodate the individual student’s attention span, behavior, strengths, weaknesses, talents and interests. At these grade levels, our teachers are continually on-the-look-out for the kinds of gaps in understanding and skill acquisition that can short-circuit attention, cooperation, confidence and learning. Our teachers and paraprofessionals are also in ongoing consultation with one another, and family members, to ensure consistency across all areas of learning. Closely supervised and adaptable intervention is precisely what is required to restabilize behavior, minimize confusion, and get the student on-track toward adjustment and productive, rewarding skill growth.
Curriculum
The Center provides a rich array of effective and specialized learning opportunities to help students at the lower grade levels gain the confidence, skills and strategies they need to function successfully in school and life. Teachers may match curriculum plans to student’s most recent IEP assessment outcomes or by individually assessing appropriate grade level instruction. Expertly geared to address individual learning, behavioral, and social-emotional styles, coursework also meets California State standard curriculum guidelines.
